Why writing?

What this space wants is to provide several tools and activities which can be useful for teachers and children in order to improve the writing skill through the creation of short stories made by students. Moreover, this blog pretends to promote the interaction among students, teachers and other populations such as parents. All of them will be able to comment critically and constructively by sharing knowledge and clues to reinforce the writing skill.

Who is it for?

Taking into account the fifth grade students' proficiency in the writing skill it was necessary to implement a new way to make pupils get interested in writing short stories according to their likes and experiences.  It would allow them to scaffold their level while sharing and correcting with classmates and other participants.

Time transitions

Hi little friends
Here you find some useful tools called time transitions. They are to write key words at the beginning, middle and end of your writing.
Beginning
  • At first
  • Initially
  • In the beginning
  • Once upon a time
Middle
  • Then
  • Some time later
  • Later
  • Afterwards
End
  • In the end
  • Finally
  • Lastly
Look at this example:
"Once upon a time, there was a man who lived in a lonely forest..."
"... Some time later, the man survived to an attack of a furious beard..."
"... Lastly, the man became the bravest person in the forest."

Inventions!

Hi bodies
Those are some little readings about useful inventions for human beings. Read them and then create a story by using that information and use vocabulary from the other posts in the blog.
Good luck!

Hot Air Balloons

The Montgolfier brothers launched the first hot air balloon in 1782. It was made of paper. A year later, the Montgolfier balloon carried its first passenger – a rooster, a sheep and a duck! Hot air balloons are still used to travel, to sightsee and even to race. But today, they’re made of cloth or rubber instead of paper. And they’re certainly not used to transport farm animals.

Contact Lenses

Today, we use contact lenses to see better, and some people use them to change their eye color. The first contact lenses were made of heavy and dark glass. Then, in 1948, Kevin Tuohy made a breakthrough in contact lenses technology, but his contacts were still thick and sniff. In the 1970s, scientists created the soft plastic lenses that many people wear today.
